A Panel Discussion

Hosted by Norton Rose Fulbright

Wednesday 29 November 2017

3 More London Riverside, London, SE1 2AQ

In the last 4 years, Ukraine has undergone a major transformation. A number of reforms were initiated, including anticorruption reform and judicial reform, and whilst the pace of the changes is not as fast as everyone  would like, it is an undisputed fact that doing business in Ukraine, out of Ukraine or about Ukraine has developed rapidly.

Traditionally, the events about Ukraine are focused solely on attracting investors into Ukraine as one of the emerging markets, rich on natural resources and raw materials. Whilst this is no doubt an important part of business attractiveness of Ukraine, there is multitude of other ways one can do business in Ukraine and utilise the highly skilled human resources and innovative methods of doing business Ukraine has to offer.

With today’s event, UBCC commences a series of business events showcasing real life stories of doing business in Ukraine in different sectors – fintech, outsourcing, apparel and fashion, manufacturing and others, thus providing a unique opportunity to hear about realities of doing business in Ukraine and achieving global success.

Today’s panellists represent the cutting edge of global business – Fintech and Technology Solutions. Their business ideas were conceived and developed in different times and places, but they have one thing in common – each of them has a strong business connection with Ukraine, which became the foundation of their ultimate success and recognition in UK and globally.

The panellists will share their success stories of doing business in Ukraine and from Ukraine with the audience, and will be available for Q & A session thereafter. The panel discussion will be followed by a networking reception.

Oleksiy Soroka – Director, Portfolio Manager, Allianz Global Investors

Taras Chaban – Vice President, Global Head of Buy Side Solutions, Nasdaq

In September 2017 Nasdaq acquired Sybenetix - the leading Enterprise Behavioural Analytics company working with hedge funds, banks and asset managers to systematically improve investment performance, risk and conduct management at the individual, team and company-wide levels.

Sybenetix (initially known as Investment Intelligence) was co-founded in 2009 by Taras Chaban, a former fund manager, who came from Ukraine to UK in 1995 to study Artificial Intelligence at the University of Liverpool. Taras was developing the idea of a software which would allow hedge funds to spot rogue traders by using AI, for many years, before deciding to convert it into a business. This required creating a team of developers who would be able to implement the idea into reality and service the increasing number of clients, and such team was created in Ukraine.

Taras Vervega – Co-founder and Board Member, SoftServe Inc.

Founded in 1993 in Lviv, Ukraine, SoftServe, Inc. is a leading technology solutions company specializing in consultancy services and software development. SoftServe transforms the way many large Fortune 500, start-ups and independent software vendor (ISV) clients do business across Big DataIoTCloudDevOpsdigital commerce, security, and experience design.
